The Children's Fund for GSD Research is a not-for-profit (501c3) foundation, established to benefit children born with Glycogen Storage Disease (GSD1).
Recent Events

Events are a great way to spread awareness about Glycogen Storage Disease and generate revenue for research.

We thank you all for your generous support.


On October 21st Ryan James and Cameron Gussin hosted a joint Mitzvah Project in support of Jamie Gussin and The Children's Fund.  Thank you to everyone who laced up their sneakers and participated in the Fun Run/Walk at Coral Reef Park in Palmetto Bay, FL.  It was a great day and over $2,000 was raised for GSD Research.  Mazel Tov to James, Cameron and their families.  We appreciate you! 


On November 3rd, Brian Makovsky, friend of The Children's Fund and owner of Intense Training in Coral Springs, FL, participatied in the IRONMAN Triathlon in Panama City Beach, FL.  It takes an insane amount of preparation and training to accomplish this.  Thank you Brian for pushing yourself to the limit for our cause.  Thank you to Celebrity Cruises and Generation UCAN for sponsoring Brian, and to everyone who has generously donated to support his efforts.  With your help, Brian raised over $5,000 for The Children's Fund!!! Woohoo!!




Karaoke Night!

Thank you to everyone who joined us fort KARAOKE NIGHT for GSD!  What a blast!  A big shout out to Desiree Makovsky and the CSRIPS Paramedic Class 03-17 for organizing such a great event and for supporting The Children's Fund for GSD Research.  Thank you Bridget and everyone at Wings Plus - you guys are amazing!  And to Rodrigo and Sir Diego of Sound Fun Party for being the life of the party.  Thank you everyone for your generosity. We are so grateful to have your support!

Super Bowl LIII Raffle

Congratulations to Allen Schulman who won two tickets to Super Bowl LIII on February 3rd at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA plus 3 nights accommodations at Omni Hotel, CNN Center in Atlanta.  

Thank you to everyone who participated!   With your help we raised almost $50,000 for GSD research and every penny brings us closer to a cure.  We are so grateful for your support.

11th Annual GSD Gala
Hot Havana Nights

Thank you to everyone who attended or contributed to our 11th Annual GSD Gala, Hot Havana Nights on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Margaritaville Beach Resort in Hollywood.  With your help, we raised over $300,000.  100% of this money will be used to help fund promising research towards a cure and/or studies that will help to improve the lives of patients with GSD.  We are grateful for your generous support.  

FDA Approves Gene Therapy for the Treatment of GSD1a

On April 23, 2018, Ultragenyx Pharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of novel products for the treatment of rare and ulta-rare diseases, announced approval by the FDA to move forward with Gene Therapy for the Treatment of GSD1a.  

Ultragenyx will work closely with Dr. David Weinstein and his team at UConn to deliver the gene therapy treatment to replace the missing or faulty gene, corrrecting the underlying defect to restore metabolic function.  The first patient is expected to be treated  in June of 2018.

Concert for a Cause

Jake Gordon (GSD1a) and fellow band members of JTPH (Matty Templeton, Jacob Zinn, Michael Grapel and Alex Milne) performed a benefit concert at Chappaqua Station on October 26th.  The evening was a huge success and they raised over $3,000 for GSD Research.  Thank you JTPH!  YOU GUYS ROCK!!  



Thanks for joining us on Wednesday, May 3rd for a fun night with friends at Parkland Golf and Country Club where we ate, drank shopped and laughed til our bellies hurt. We look forward to seeing you and all of our wonderful vendors again next year.

Rock the Night for GSD

The 10th Annual GSD Gala, Rock the Night for GSD, took place on
October 1, 2016 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in 
Hollywood, FL.  The evening was a huge success thanks to our friends, family, volunteers, sponsors and supporters.  If you were unable to attend, you can still support our cause by making a donation or ordering a t-shirt.  Thank you.   


Ellie's 9th Birthday

Ellie is turning 9.... Hooray!  We can't wait for the party!  But instead of receiving gifts such as clothes or toys, or even jewelry, Ellie hopes her friends and family will make a donation to The Children's Fund to help find a cure for her friend Jamie who has GSD. In Memory of Ron Jones

Kyla's Mitzvah Project

Mike Dunn's 1st NYC Marathon!

On November 1st, MIke Dunn ran 26.2 miles through the streets of New York to help generate awareness and raise funds to help find a cure for his nephew Justin Gilbert, and others with GSD1a.  With your help, Mike raised over $13,000!  Way to go Mike!  Congrats on your amazing run and thank you for your dedication to our cause.  

Unmask the Magic

The 9th Annual GSD Gala, "Unmask the Magic" was held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Design Center of the Americas (DCOTA) in Dania Beach, Florida. Over $350,000 was raised for GSD Research.

Carla's Bike Tour: Carla Rides for GSD!

On May 3, 2015, Carla, friend of the Reed family, embarked on a 5-Boro Bike Tour to benefit The Children's Fund for GSD Research.

Books & Bellinis Author Visit

What a lovely time we had at the Books & Bellinis Luncheon with Rochelle Weinstein, author of The Mourning After.   We laughed, we cried, we met some lovely people and we educated a whole new group about GSD.  Thank you to Rochelle for sharing the afternoon with us and to everyone who helped make our event a success.  

Sandy Hodes plays 120 Holes of Golf in One Day for GSD

On Monday, June 17th, Sandy Hodes, dad of Samantha & Katie Hodes (GSD1a) played 120 holes of golf at Stonewall Links Golf Course in PA. This was the most played in the event with more than 30 participants. Based on the pedometer, Sandy and his partner Ed Tancer took more than 76,000 steps, walked in excess of 36 miles and the effort equated to walking up 156 flights of stairs. It took 14 hours including a short 1 hour lightning delay at the 98 hole mark. He hit the first shot at 5:22 am and finished 54 holes by 10:45 am, 72 by 1 pm, 100 at 5:37 (after the delay) and 120 by 7:20 pm. Congratulations to Sandy and thank you to everyone who supported his effort.
