Our Story

Danielle was diagnosed with GSD type 1A when she was 1 year old. We knew she loved to eat, and it was a joy to watch her indulge in all her favorite foods- what we thought was a large belly due her champion diet, turned out to be an enlarged liver which prompted numerous testing by her pediatricians. It has been a learning experience for all; parents, aunts, uncles and cousins policing her diet and educating ourselves on the disease itself. Danielle is now 8, doing the frequent sugar monitoring herself and telling us what she can and can’t eat, even informing us when she’s feeling ‘low’. Before Danielle, we had never heard about GSD, She has taught us more than any teacher could—not only about a disease, but about self control, discipline and determination. I want to be able to answer Danielle’s question of “Why me” by saying, because you helped find a cure.
